Turning a technical tuning system into a product built around real users.

Product DevelopmentProduct StrategyEngineering

FOX came to Kilterset to bring an internal suspension tuning tool from MATLAB to the web. As the work progressed, the project became about more than rebuilding the technology. It became about understanding who the product was for, what it should help riders achieve, and what FOX ultimately wanted it to become.

From technical tool to product opportunity.

FOX saw an opportunity to turn its suspension tuning expertise into a more accessible digital experience for riders.

While rebuilding and validating the existing calculation engine, Kilterset began asking broader questions about the product: Who was it really for? What experience should it create? What should success look like for riders and for FOX?

Those questions changed the direction of the engagement.

Building with greater clarity.

Rather than continuing with the original scope unchanged, Kilterset worked with FOX to reconsider the product direction while continuing the technical foundation behind it.

The work combines suspension physics, software engineering, and product thinking to transform an internal technical system into a digital product designed around how people will actually use it.

The Bigger Picture

Building the right thing starts with understanding what it needs to do.

FOX is a good example of how product development can evolve beyond the original technical brief. Sometimes the most valuable progress comes from questioning the direction before simply building more.
